Lakshadweep and Andaman-Nicobar islands
If there is a place in India which truly symbolizes beauty and purity, it is Andaman and Nicobar islands. This group of islands are at the juncture of the Bay of Bengal and the Andaman Sea; whereas the Lakshadweep group of islands are in the Laccadive Sea. All these regions are union territories and hence, are governed by the Central government of India.
Lakshadweep is one of the world’s most spectacular tropical island systems. Thirty- two sq. km of land spread over 36 islands surrounded by 4200 sq. km of lagoon rich in marine wealth. All the islands are endowed with the beauty of coral reef, sandy beaches, unpolluted and clear water and hospitable settings, most of these differ in terms of facilities and services offered. Some islands have been promoted for diving and water sports such as kayaking, parasailing and snorkelling; still others have been developed so that people enjoy the charm of relaxation and natural enjoyment. Lakshadweep includes Kavaratti, Kalpeni, Minicoy, Kadmat, Agatti and Bangaram islands.

One can reach Lakshadweep by flight and ships from Kochi. The Indian Airlines operate flight from Kochi every day except Sunday. Lakshadweep Administration operates ships from Kochi.
The Andaman and Nicobar are unique in their own right as well. The Andaman & Nicobar Islands comprises of around 572 islands, out of which only 37 are inhabited. The rest are fully covered with reserve forests, with no human habitation. The Islands have been best described as “India’s best kept Secret”. The Radhanagar Beach in Havelock Island has been rated as among Asia’s finest beaches by TIME Magazine.
The historically important Jail at Andaman
The cellular jail at Port Blair is quite famous as a monument. The anthropological museum, forest museum and fisheries museum are worth visiting too! Like Lakshadweep, Andaman and Nicobar offer a variety of activities for the enthusiastic traveller such as water sports, diving, fun fairs and festivals. These islands are also a treasure house of items which you can buy and take back as a souvenir. For example: sea shells, handicrafts etc.
Port Blair, the gateway to Andaman and Nicobar, is connected to Chennai and Kolkata by air. Regular passenger ships are also available to Port Blair from Chennai, Kolkata and Vishakhapatanam. The ideal time to visit is from October to may as June to September period has heavy rains.
